The “Certificate of Excellence” program has been adopted by the FVHD to recognize those facilities and operations that have a consistent pattern of safe food handling as observed during regular inspections conducted over the past few years.
Selection Policy for Issuance of Certificates of Excellence
On an annual basis, prior to Food Service Permit renewals, each inspector nominates facilities they inspect for consideration.
- Consideration for the award of a Certificate is based on the results of at least four (4) inspections conducted over a minimum two (2) year period.
- Must meet all requirements for a "Good" Rating during that period.
- Have no major risk factors (See appendix #1 of the FVHD Food Regulations) likely to result in a food related illness observed during inspections conducted in that time frame. Also, there shall have been no four (4) demerit items noted.
Nominees for consideration for the award shall be submitted to the Assistant Director of Health who will review the recommendations with the staff involved in conducting inspections of food service facilities in the FVHD. Following this review, a list of recommended recipients will be submitted to the Director of Health. Any Certificates issued shall be sent together with a congratulatory letter from the Director of Health anf the new Permit.
Some notes:
- There will be no expiration dates - the certificates will reference a two (2)year inspection period.
- We will begin issuing Certificates in April 2007 and that will be for the entire District. After that, consideration for the award will be done in conjunction with Permit renewals.
- New facilities and those with a change in ownership will not be eligible for a Certificate until there is a minimum of two (2) years' inspection history.
- Permit renewal applications must be complete - awards may not be given to those who submit renewal applications late and/or incomplete.
