Food Safety After a Power Outage

Home > Popular Searches > Food Safety After a Power Outage

One of the most frequently asked questions to our department is residents of the District seeking guidance as to how long foods should be kept during or after a power outage. The following website links provide excellent information to help determine when refrigerated or frozen foods should be discarded. Since electrical service may be interrupted for an extended period of time, it is recommended that these pages be printed in advance.

This information is intended for consumers only. Commercial food service establishments must contact the FVHD office at (860) 352-2333 to determine the disposition of foods after loss of temperature control.
